You should check the area of Great Falls of Northern Virginia. This is the prestigious community where most of the sports players, politicians and other celebrities live in the D.C. area. I don't know that you will even be able to find a house for under a million. There are no townhouses, apartments or condo's allowed in the town of Great Falls so they are all single family residences located usually on about an acre of land. Properties in northern virginia are appreciated at a rate of like 20-40%/year.
